One of the classes I took in Fall '25 was 2.008 Design and Manufacturing II. This class involved designing and manufacturing injection molded yoyos, and my team decided to make a yoyo based on the character Totoro from the Studio Ghibli Film "My Neighbor Totoro".

My main contribution to the project was the design and machining of the outer, Totoro shaped molds.
Injection molding is hard.
1. Tuning the pressfit took several mold remachines to get correct.
2. Sometimes the parts didn't release too cleanly. Say hello to TotoNo.
3. Plastic shrinks when it cools. We had a fun time prying that one off.
